Freiya feels an instant attraction to Sabrina but how do you play to get her to notice you? Eventually, they stop dancing around each other and the relationship evolved. Yes opposites do attract! Unfortunately, it's not all rosy. They have to be very careful with showing their love in public and both have a rough time. On top of that, they have to deal with not so understanding family, discrimination and a covenant that has a major impact on their relationship. Gradually Freiya learns a few painful lessons about herself and her place in the world. Life isn't easy for them. Rules, guidance, discipline, punishment and forgiveness is required but can their love survive the harsh reality of life? Can they finally find their way back together? This book combines excellent writing with snappy dialogue. The issues are interesting and unfortunately, not a fantasy but still a cold, hard reality in many parts of the world. The author takes you to thought-provoking depts and she makes you laugh and cry. Both Sabrina and Freiya touched my heart in so many ways. This is a beautiful story with a lot of emotions. It's impossible not to love this book and I guarantee this is worth a read.Product details

A great love story here with two women with such different personalities. They face some huge hurdles on the way to their happily ever after, but what a wonderful journey it turned out to be. I have to say there were moments when I just wanted to shake Sabrina, literally, but she eventually figured it out. Freiya was sweet and I loved when she stood up for herself and Sabrina. Difficult but necessary, for her. I sincerely hope there will be a book two, there is so much more to tell, *hint hint* )
'Freiya's Stand' is kind of an oddball book. It's strange because it starts out in a grounded reality but moves into a fantasy, utopian realm without a nod to the reader that it is doing so...and strange, too, in how Sabrina reacts later on in the book. Both incidences felt jarring to me.
This is a Vitsky book so you automatically get an f/f story that involves spanking...the crux of the story, though, is about closeted characters in a deeply conservative environment and what happens when their hands are forced and they must choose between taking a stand for themselves or doing what is necessary to keep their jobs and reputations.
Sabrina and Freiya come from Catholic backgrounds and are teachers at a Catholic school so there is a lot more religion than I usually encounter in my reads. Even so, as an atheist, I did not find it heavy handed and I felt it was true to the story and characters. Religion isn't painted as a savior or a villain...but we see how important of a role it plays for our leads.
I live in one of the most non-religious and progressive cities in the United States so it can be hard to believe the situation Freiya and Sabrina deal with could even happen...but, unfortunately, it can and it does even as far as gay rights have come. I thought it was an interesting situation to explore...
And, the story is told with a mix of present day and flashback so we get the leads as they are in an already established relationship and in a budding romance.
I just wish the storyline would've stayed grounded in reality and that the conflicts that arise between the leads was fleshed out more. As it was, the relationship dipped into a seemingly unhealthy place. It felt, really, that the story was rushed about 2/3rds of the way through and I would've liked it if the conflict between Freiya and Sabrina was fleshed out more into a healthier dynamic.
Anyway, I like Vitsky and there were parts of this I liked but this wasn't my favorite story of hers. About 3.25/3.3 stars.
I think this story will resonate with many of us as the world has not yet progressed from homophobia. While many are now capable of being comfortable about their sexuality, there are still many places in the world where anything other than heterosexuality is discriminated against. This story brings forth this discrimination but balances this seriousness with the lovable main characters, Sabrina and Freiya. So, if you're looking for a story that will take your mind off things for a while and brighten your day, you've picked the right book. What I absolutely enjoyed in this book was the interaction between Sabrina and Freiya. It's the adrenaline rush of the chase, the uncertainty of feelings that may or may not be reciprocated, the giddiness of a new relationship and the trust that they're going to be stuck with each other for a pretty long time. Both characters seem to be the polar opposites of each other and yet each complement the other well. It was fun to read Freiya's infectious, easy-going manner interacting with Sabrina's cool-on-the-surface demeanor throughout the story. Ms Vitsky writes emotions well, and you can definitely expect some emotional intensity in the story. It just wouldn't be her book without it! But do not be put off, if you're looking for something not too heavy to read - it's just intense enough to get your attention and to cheer with the characters later on. Freiya's passion and (mostly) sunny disposition was really a treat to read in the book - she's like that friend you have who has so much energy for life that just being in their presence makes you feel a little more alive. While there are some darker conflicts between characters in the book, I came away feeling happy after reading this story and so I recommend this story to you, to put that little bit of brightness in your day.
